I have been working a lot lately and enjoying every moment of time spent working on some exciting projects. Other than learning about programming and other new things about internet, I today discovered something which was not linked to projects and development, but was to do with "fun".
Are you fun to work with?
As a client are you fun to work with? As a person are you fun to work with? We should all ask ourself this question and see what reply we come back with.
If the answer is NO or might be. You should change. Nobody wants to work with someone who is not fun. Yes, money is a good motivator, but if you are not fun to work with, the end result of what you are trying to do will not be the best.
Let me explain:
Being fun to work with is every important for the success of your/any project. If you are the only person working on the project. The project in itself has to be fun. Something you enjoy, other wise the project will not be the best and is less likely to succeed.
If you have others working on your project, being fun to work with becomes more essential. It will make the project a lot better than what it was set out to be. It's human behavior. If you are good to deal with and the person on the other end(developer/design/planner etc..who is doing the job) enjoys interacting with you, then he/she is constantly thinking of ways to make the project better.
Money motivates the wrong things sometimes. Money motivates the mind to tell you to get the job done as fast a possible and move on the next job. It does not motivate the mind to think of new ideas for the other person, which will benefit the project.
Some more reasons, why it is important to be fun to work with
The other person does not dread giving you are call/having conversation and discussing progress.
It's no longer about completing the job, its about completing the job the best way possible.
More ideas are thought of, than before.
You start thinking about delays differently. It's no longer about the other person not liking the work and hence causing the delay. It's because the person is putting in more effort and thinking of new possible way of making the product better. Is that not good? A better product.
I am trying to best to be fun to work with. Are you?
